When entering the city of Barentsburg it was clear that we no longer was on Norwegian territory. The style of the buildings, and the atmosphere was totally changed. The women working at the hotel looked like "typical" Russian women with purple aprons and strict makeup. We had to make an effort to make them smile, but eventually we made it :)

At the hotel we were fed with a lot of meat and vegetables with extra butter. You need carbs and protein in the Arctic! The whole next day we drove around in the area and looked at geological structures inside the HUGE monocline of the west side of Svalbard.

For lunch we ate dry-tech food. As no one wanted the fish type everyone jumped onto the box with the dry-tech to fetch something else. I ate lamb stew and cattle stew. Jummy!
